If you work in an office or travel for work, healthy eating can be a challenge.
Some employers offer healthy meals onsite, but it’s not typical.
The most effective strategy for managing your food environment at work is bringing your own food.
Bringing your own food keeps you in control and like anything, it gets easier the more you do it.
When you are first starting out, you’ll probably forget your meal at home, so have a backup plan—find a local eatery that offers quick, healthy meals so that you don’t end up opting for fast food.
Here are a few more tips:
- Be careful of that well-intentioned person who brings in donuts every week. If there are treats in the break room—it’s best to stay out.
- Don’t feel obligated to eat take-out food even if your employer orders in as a nice gesture.
- If it’s someone’s birthday—go ahead and have a small piece of cake. It’s okay.
- If you travel for a living, you need to be especially careful; although these days, it is getting easier to find acceptable options. Know where the healthy spots are!
- There are healthy food services that will even deliver to hotels, so talk to your boss—they owe it to you.
