Up until the last few decades, food processing was really just traditional cooking.
Meals were prepared by combining whole foods with whole food ingredients (sugar, honey, butter, salt, and spices) yielding the cultural cuisine that people have eaten for hundreds and even thousands of years.
However, times have changed. In the modern era, food companies add massive amounts of sugar, fat, salt, and other chemicals so that overeating seems all but inevitable.
You probably don’t have the time or inclination to can your own fish or make your own cheese. And we’re not suggesting that you do so.
Our point is that you can’t blindly trust the modern food industry to offer you nutritious food as their motives have little to do with your health.
You don’t have to completely avoid processed food. You just need to put up some guardrails and understand what you’re getting.
