There is a reason why a Couch to 10K Event can be a powerful driver of behavioral change.

If you are a goal-oriented person, think about using that personality trait to build your workout strategy.

You might consider signing up for an exercise event—there are certainly plenty around. Speak with your coach about some options.

If you’re considering an exercise event as a way to channel your motivation, keep in mind these tips:

  • Don’t make it a one and done. We do not recommend signing up for an event as a bucket list item. It’s about setting goals, achieving them, and setting more goals so that activity becomes a part of your lifestyle.
  • Don’t overreach. It’s easier to commit to the idea of an event when you are sitting comfortably at home. If this is your first time preparing for an event or race, think of less as more.
  • It doesn’t have to be a race. There are many exercise-related activities that support personal growth, like a tai chi class, training to complete a difficult hike, or working on doing more challenging yoga poses.
  • Consider team goals. For example, members of your tribe could sign up for a specific event as individuals or as a relay, which can help keep everyone on track.
