Overview:

In this topic of the PowerME™ Vitality Program, healthcare providers will explore the fundamentals of motivation and lifestyle change. Understanding what drives people to change and adapt new health habits is key to facilitating effective coaching sessions and achieving lasting results.

Providers will learn to distinguish between two types of motivation: external motivation, which is driven by outside forces and is rarely effective for creating lasting behavioral change, and core motivation, which is an internal, deeply personal drive and serves as a stronger, more effective force for change.

Providers will also explore techniques for helping patients identify their core motivation or their ‘why,’ such as self-reflection and introspection.

Healthcare providers and coaches can help patients identify their core motivation by encouraging self-reflection and introspection. This is typically a gradual process that will help to anchor the patient’s goals with an internal self-view that can direct healthy behavior.
