So, what does this all mean from a practical standpoint? What steps should you take to keep your momentum as you transition from changing to maintaining a healthy lifestyle?

We recommend going through each of the above points one-by-one. We’d love it if you called it a checklist.

  • What’s motivating you to keep going? What is your ‘why.’ I’m changing my lifestyle so I can support my family.
  • How can you protect and restore your mental energy reserves? I’m committing the first part of my day to getting my workout in. I’m prioritizing sleep by getting to bed by 10:00 p.m.
  • What resources are readily available—what are some health tools that you have access to? Time to buy that air fryer!
  • Are any of your action steps suitable to form lifelong habits? Morning smoothie anyone?
  • Optimize your environment so that it supports your healthy behavior. Hang out with people who fill you up. I’m going to make sure that our family gets together once per week.

If you find that you’re in a slump, it’s time to hit pause and do a self-check. Don’t perform this exercise at the end of a hard day. Put a pin in it and come back when you’re feeling rested.
