Semaglutide is a powerful weight loss agent. Studies have shown that patients can, on average, lose 5-15% of their body weight.
While semaglutide and other GLP-1’s have created a new paradigm for medical weight loss, in the Vitality Program, we leverage the profound effects that semaglutide has on behavior.
Semaglutide suppresses appetite. In PowerME we refer to this as nutritional hunger. This is ‘every-day’ hunger that we all experience. “It’s time for lunch, I could eat a sandwich”, and so forth.
The suppression of nutritional hunger invariably results in patients eating less overall, which is one component of weight loss.
Semaglutide also appears to have significant effects on the mesolimbic system. We refer to this effect in the Vitality Program as emotional hunger. Patients on semaglutide experience reductions in food cravings and food ‘noise’.
