It’s important to have a backup for when things don’t go as planned.

Research has shown that people who have sufficient physical and psychological reserves available are more able to stay on their lifestyle course when times get tough. Consider the following:

Physical Resources

  • Have products and services that support your healthy behavior easily available. Arrange your life in a way that reduces friction for performing healthy behaviors.
  • Examples include having access to a gym or sports equipment, a comfortable mattress, a meditation app, cookware that supports healthy eating, a health-related podcast, or even a new yoga mat. Check out your surroundings. Does your environment support and encourage healthy behavior?

Psychological Resources

  • There is a reason why we use action steps in PowerME™ to support behavioral change.

  • Research shows that successfully completing a simple action can help you to build resilience, which is likened to mental toughness. Resilience is what lets you power through a hard day—or even a hard week.

  • What are some action steps that you can easily complete that support your health goals? What about relaxation exercises such as meditation, breathing exercises, and journaling? How about reading, writing, music, or exercise?
