Imagine that it’s a couple million years ago and you’re out on the savanna, hunting for food.

It’s getting cold and dark, and there are lots of predators around looking for an easy snack.

Your logical brain can see that the best decision is to find a safe place and get an early start tomorrow.

Yet, your family hasn’t eaten for days. Your stomach growls and some part of you overrules your rational brain and keeps you moving forward. You’re being controlled by that deep, ancient drive—survival.

Fast forward to the new millennium.

Your day-to-day decisions are less about starving or being eaten by predators.

But there is a part of your brain that still thinks it’s traipsing across the savanna, living in a world of eat or be eaten, searching for the next meal.
