You might have noticed that we have not talked about macronutrient-restrictive diets—i.e., low-fat or low-carb.  

We aren’t opposed to a low-fat or low-carb approach per se. Significantly reducing your intake of either macronutrient can be effective for reducing calorie intake. 

Our concern is that very few people can follow an extremely low-fat or low-carb diet for their entire lives. These tend to be programs aimed at weight loss rather than lifestyle change. 

A common problem with a highly restrictive diet is that you learn how to diet—but you don’t learn how to change your lifestyle.  

We advocate for whole foods, prepared in a healthy way as the foundation of good nutrition. Consider styles that focus on portions, calories, and time—as add-on strategies that you adopt for the long term. That’s how you can eat less in a world of more.
