If you want to remember a fact, like your credit card number, it can take repeating the information many times before it finds its way to permanent storage.  

And even then, dragging out that snippet of information years down the road isn’t easy. Of course, your age and aptitude play an important role. 

But how does it work for things that aren’t repetitive, or for events that are important but not something that you would memorize?
