The Standard American Diet is calorie dense, meaning that there is a lot of energy packed into a small amount of food.
For many people, this means that even if they follow a healthy diet they can still consume too many calories.
In PowerME™, we frequently work with patients who become frustrated because they eat well, but still struggle with improving their metabolic flexibility and losing weight.
A big part of the problem is that humans don’t have the ability to sense calories. We can’t tell the difference between a tablespoon of salad dressing that contains 100 calories versus one that contains 500 calories.
Thus, with an energy-dense diet you have very little wiggle room—it’s really easy to eat a lot of calories and not even realize it.
So, what can we do?
